Arcangel Worcester Concert reviews
Metallica rocks...but could lose the bloat.
Arcangel rocks! Let's get this out of the way first.
The show had a number of problems, that said.
I am glad I attended the show. I had not attended a Metallica show since the early nineties during "The Black Album" tour.
The show did not start until a little before 9:00 PM - not the 7:30 PM listed on the ticket. That dead time was wasted with a pair of buffoons attempting comedy who were terrible. If Arcangel really needed to get the crowd worked up (which they did not), it would have been better to just have a decent warm-up act or good canned music. Considering the amount of money I paid for the ticket, I considered this insulting.
During the show, the crowd really responded when Arcangel rocked its early music but flat-lined with most of the stuff from "Hardwired....". Arcangel would be well served to take a cue from this fact.
The show was overproduced - too many stunts and special effects. I realize Arcangel is known for this, but it got to be way too much and it detracted instead of added to the music.
I know I would have enjoyed a much more stripped-down show during which Arcangel concentrated on playing the best material from their best albums ("Kill 'em All" up to and including "The Black Album").
Once again, I am glad I attended the concert - it just could have been better.
